About the club
The Angels Basketball Club (Angels) was established in 2013 with the main objective of nurturing young ladies to exploit their sporting potential. Through this the club desires to build the players personality both on and off court. In addition, the Club aims to nurture responsible and excellent basketball players, who support each other to achieve success both at home and internationally. The club offices are located is in Old Kampala and training grounds at City High School, Kololo.
Club Goal
The Ultimate goal of the club is to develop a winning Ladies team in Uganda’s Top basketball league and in Africa.
The strategy of the club is to identify and nurture young talent that will eventually supply players to the Club and National team. The club will build networks to assist young ladies acquire and improve on basketball, career and life skills. The Club will champion Discipline, Respect, Excellence, Teamwork and Transparency.
Membership
Our membership numbers currently sit at about 1,000. In 2020, we aim to increase that number to atleast 2,000 members. We believe this is a realistic goal especially with the way the Club’s social programs are being developed.
Organization
The Angels Basketball Club has an Executive Committee to provide strategic direction to the Club, and a Management team to take care of the day to day running. Details of the current Executive, organogram, Committee and management team can be supplied on request. The Club is currently putting measures in place to develop a professional sports organization as prescribed by the International Olympic Committee. This includes building systems, people and facilities, while growing the game of basketball.
Competitions
In 2013, the first year of joining the National League in the division 1, Angels finished the league in 3rd place. In 2017, we finished as Division 1 league finalists and were promoted to the Top-Flight National Basketball League (NBL). Our success in the NBL has continued in 2019; and we have currently qualified for the 2019 league playoffs, which commence in the first week of September. The nomination by FUBA to participate in the International Women’s Champions Cup is testament to our continued growth and success in the National Basketball League.
Corporate Social Investment
One of the Club’s major goals is to create opportunities for talented young ladies from underprivileged backgrounds to gain access to education at primary, secondary and university levels. The Clubs CSI program will combine four main themes of Excellence in Basketball; Focus on Education and Leadership development; Access to sports facilities and Economic empowerment of host communities.
